Digital Mammography

Digital mammography gives radiologists a high quality image and is much quicker for the patient. There is also less chance of having to repeat a mammogram. With digital mammography, radiologists are able to correct underexposed and overexposed images on a computer screen. They can also digitally enhance the image for better viewing. Not only is the process more efficient, but patients will also get their results quicker. Patients who come in for a diagnostic exam (referred by the doctor following an abnormal physical or screening exam) will get their results the same day. Patients who come in for a screening exam will get results in 12 business days.

Breast Ultrasound

This test is often used to check abnormal results from a mammogram. Breast ultrasound is also used to detect whether a breast lump is filled with fluid (a cyst) or if it is a solid lump. This procedure does not use x-rays.

Breast MRI

Breast MRI is a test that may be used to distinguish between benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous) lesions. Performing this test may reduce the number of breast biopsies done to evaluate a suspicious breast mass. It may also be used for patients who are considered at high risk for breast cancer.

Many Tests, One Comfortable Location

Since the Advocate Sherman Hospital Center for Women's Health is self-contained, diagnostic patients can get a full work-up in one location. If something is found on a screening mammogram, the patient can quickly schedule all follow-up appointments for a complete diagnostic work-up and receive results that same day.
