Sherman’s Blood Drive: Save lives and get free ice cream!

By Lauren | July 26, 2010

Sherman Hospital will be hosting a blood drive on Friday August 27 from 12 pm – 4 pm. The drive will be held in meeting rooms 4-6 on the lower level.

Everyone who donates blood will receive a gift certificate valid for a free quart of ice cream from Oberweis Ice Cream!

If you are wondering why you should donate, there are constant shortages on blood, causing a continuous demand for it. A few important facts and statistics about blood and its needs include:

Donating blood is 100% safe and you cannot contract any diseases from donating. The donation process includes registration, a brief medical screening, blood collection and refreshments.

Come visit the lower level and Donate the Gift of Life! Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome.

The blood drive will be run by Heartland Blood Centers, who have been providing community blood service for nearly 70 years. To make your appointment now, click here, or call Janet at (630) 723-2565!

I will love to donate blood. I am in perfect health condition, no smoking, no alcohol, no drugs. But I have been turned down in 2003 because I am from India. I think they told me that they didnt want to take blood from someone who visited a Malaria infected area. I am from close to Mumbai India. After that I never tried.

Is there a requirement that you should not have visited India in last couple of years to donate blood?

    Thanks
