Sherman experts featured in Daily Herald and Courier-News heat wave articles

Dog and fanOur thanks to the Daily Herald and the Courier-News for talking with a couple of our expert voices at Sherman! The links to the respective articles are at the bottom of this blog post.

Dr. Stilson in the Daily Herald

Matthew Stilson, MD, medical director for Sherman’s emergency room and immediate care centers, reported heat-related illnesses that, fortunately, were mostly minor.

“Sherman doctors examined between five and seven people daily, mostly for minor heat exhaustion, as opposed to heat stroke, said Dr. Matthew Stilson.”

Ginger Sorenson in the Courier-News

Ginger is a registered and licensed dietitian at Sherman, and her advice was sought in regards to proper nutrition during intense heat.

“Ginger Sorensen, a registered and licensed dietitian with Sherman Health, noted that while eight 12-ounce glasses of water a day might be ideal, people should at least try to have one or two more glasses than they normally do when temperatures soar.

“Especially if they are active,” Sorensen said.

Beverages with caffeine and alcohol can lead to dehydration. Sorensen said that booze can raise your body’s temperature.”

Summer is not over yet, so be sure to stay safe if you’re outside during peak sunlight hours. Visit shermanhealth.com and the Sherman Health blog for the latest heat-related news and advice.
