Sherman Health has partnered with the city of Elgin to host a stage for the International Cycling Classic & Superweek Pro Tour, held July 9-26, 2009. Cyclists from all over the world come to compete in this 17-day event held in 12 center cities throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. The event is on the calendars of many elite riders; in fact, over 700 Olympic cycling hopefuls will be competing.

The Sherman Health Elgin Cycling Classic will bring back its famous “road race” on Sunday, July 12 from 7 am to 5 pm. The start/finish line is at the intersection of Douglas and Kimball in downtown Elgin, making a 6-mile loop through the residential neighborhood and commercial corridor of Route 25 northeast of downtown.

In addition to the road race, the Sherman Health Elgin Cycling Classic includes a festival of live music, food and vendors near the start/finish line at the Douglas Street Sports Bar & Grill.
