One day only: Safe disposal of your old medications!

Tossing old medications into the garbage or flushing them down the toilet may put them out of mind for you, but there are environmental ramifications to disposing of them this way. Tossed or flushed medical compounds find their way into our groundwater and end up in lakes and streams. The US Geological Survey studied water from 139 streams in 30 states and found that 80% contained traces of pharmaceuticals (source).

On Saturday, September 25, you will have the opportunity to safely dispose of old medications. There are two dropoff locations in Elgin:

1. Elgin Police Department: 10 am – 2 pm
2. Elgin Township Building: 10 am – 1 pm
