Celebrate American Heart Month with Sherman Hospital
By Mollie | February 1, 2010
With Valentine’s Day as a stand out holiday this month, everyone’s thoughts turn to love. And Sherman Health is no different: as the area’s most experienced Heart and Vascular Center, we love to celebrate American Heart Month!
To celebrate, we’re supporting the American Heart Association’s (AHA) “Go Red for Women“. Go Red for Women is a national movement to help fight back against the number one killer of women — heart disease. The event just asks everyone to wear red on Friday, February 5 to raise awareness.
During February, Sherman will also support Go Red for Women by selling red dress pins in the Sherman Hospital Tree House Gift Shop for $2 (all proceeds support the AHA), and a variety of red treats, including red dress cookies, at the Sherman Perk. Both the Tree House Gift Shop and the Perk are located just inside the main entrance of the new Sherman Hospital. Read the rest of this entry »

January 17 – 23 is Healthy Weight Week
By Luke | January 22, 2010
The third full week in January is Healthy Weight Week, and the Thursday during Healthy Weight Week is also Women’s Healthy Weight Day. The Healthy Weight Network raises awareness this week by encouraging us to “celebrate healthy living habits that last a lifetime and prevent eating and weight problems, rather than intensifying them, as diets do.”
As for how to go about celebrating Healthy Weight Week, there are multiple steps outlined, listed below:
- Stop dieting.
- Be active in your own way every day.
- Identify and build on your own special talents, traits and interests.
- Feel good about others.
- Promote good relationships and communication.
- Rediscover normal eating.
- Eat well. Include all five food groups every day.
- Relax and relieve stress in your life.
- Respect and appreciate size diversity.
For complete details on these guidelines and more information on Healthy Weight Week, click here. For something on a more local level, Sherman Health offers fantastic classes that are in place to educate you on healthy eating and exercise habits. Just click here to get started!
